SUFFICIENT HEALTHY FATS
While historically, fats have gotten a bad rap in the diet world, the latest research demonstrates that they play a critical role in healthy cell membrane formation, sex hormone production, protection and insulation of organs, and storing and releasing energy.15,16 As essential fatty acids are not produced by the body naturally, they have to be supplemented in our diets.7 That’s why Ample was formulated with a nutritious blend of monounsaturated, polyunsaturated, and saturated fatty acids (including MCTs) that have been shown to be beneficial to health.
COCONUT OIL
Every Ample formula contains coconut oil, which is rich in easily-absorbed saturated fats called medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). MCTs are quickly absorbed and can be utilized for energy in the muscles and brain. One MCT in coconut oil called lauric acid in coconut oil is antimicrobial, helping the immune system fight pathogens. Two other MCTs in coconut oil (C8 caprylic and C10 capric acid) can help increase caloric expenditure for fat loss, be used as fuel for the brain, and help burn fat during exercise as well.
HIGH-OLEIC SUNFLOWER OIL
While traditional sunflower oil is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids, the high-oleic sunflower oil found in Ample contains over 85% monounsaturated oleic acid and less than 7% polyunsaturated omega-6 fatty acids. Evidence suggests that we evolved to thrive on a diet relatively low in polyunsaturated omega 6s. The oil in Ample has been extracted to contain an abundance of oleic acid (the primary fatty acid in olive oil), which is useful for maintaining healthy HDL and triglyceride levels, and is one of the hallmarks of the Mediterranean Diet which has been studied for its effects on longevity.
MACADAMIA NUT OIL
Macadamia nut oil contains the highest concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids) of any oil.12 Research suggests that diets rich in macadamia nut oil reduce LDL cholesterol and promote cardiovascular health.13
SUNFLOWER LECITHIN
Sunflower lecithin is a phospholipid with an abundance of choline, a nutrient needed for maximizing brain health. Choline is a necessary component of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in learning and memory.15
MEDIUM CHAIN TRIGLYCERIDES (MCTs)
Medium chain triglycerides (MCTs) are fatty acids which can induce ketosis because of their rapid absorption and uptake into the liver. In addition to maintaining ketosis, MCTs increase satiety and feelings of fullness by increasing leptin and PYY hormones, can help increase caloric expenditure for fat loss, can be used as fuel for the brain, and can help burn fat during exercise. In addition to the MCTs found naturally in coconut oil, we add even more of the most ketogenic varieties (C8 and C10 fatty acids) to our Ample K formula.
HIGH-QUALITY PROTEIN SOURCES
Research continues to provide evidence that protein needs are greater in active individuals, especially those who exercise regularly. Unfortunately, it can be tough to ingest a sufficient amount of high-quality protein with all essential amino acids through only whole foods—not to mention, while on-the-go. That’s why each 400-calorie bottle of Ample Original and V contains 20-25 grams of complete protein, while Ample K features a moderate 13 grams of protein to support healthy muscle growth without knocking you out of ketosis.
GRASS-FED WHEY PROTEIN (O, K)
Ample’s whey protein concentrate comes from grass-fed cows that produce milk higher in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants than grain-fed cows.2 Whey protein is a complete protein containing all nine of the essential amino acids, with a significant amount of the branched-chain amino acid L-leucine. Research has shown that L-leucine is the key amino acid for stimulating muscle protein synthesis needed for improving musculature, fitness, and overall health.3
GRASS-FED COLLAGEN PROTEIN (O)
As the main component of connective tissue (skin, hair, bones, tendons), collagen is the most abundant protein in mammals, making up roughly one-third of the body’s total protein content.5 Collagen is rich in the essential amino acids alanine, glycine, and proline, which are crucial for proper formation of elastin; in turn, this makes collagen a major contributor to healthy skin, joints, and hair.6
PEA PROTEIN (O, K, V*)
Pea protein is a superior plant-based protein high in most amino acids that has been shown to aid in muscle recovery just as much as whey protein, likely because of the high L-arginine content.
The pea protein found in Ample is low in lectins, and is derived from split peas. Pea protein is low in cysteine and methionine and high in lysine, which is the opposite of rice protein. When combined, the two provide the full complement of all essential amino acids for your diet.
ORGANIC RICE PROTEIN (V)
Rice protein is low in lysine, but high in cysteine and methionine, which is the opposite of pea protein. When combined, the two provide the full complement of all essential amino acids for your diet.
Egg White Protein (K)
Egg white protein is a complete protein that contains not only all of the essential amino acids the human body needs, but most other amino acids that are beneficial for optimizing protein synthesis. It is high in branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) which are powerful building blocks and signalers for protein synthesis, as well as beta alanine, which has been also shown to increase muscle recovery.
LIMITED CARBOHYDRATES
Excess carbohydrates from refined sugar have been repeatedly shown to have a negative impact on health, promoting inflammation and even disrupting proper cardiovascular, endocrine, and metabolic function. With only 4 grams of sugar or less per 400-calorie bottle, we’ve kept Ample’s sugar content low and fiber content high to nourish our probiotic blend with minimal glycemic impact—providing fuel without the negative effects. For Ample K, we’ve limited carbs even more to keep you in ketosis, with just 3 net carbs per 400-calorie meal.
ORGANIC SWEET POTATO (O)
Sweet potato starch is very low in sugar and digests slowly30 to promote satiety, healthy blood glucose levels, and provide lasting energy. Sweet potatoes are also rich in a variety of micronutrients (Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Manganese, Vitamin B6, Potassium, Pantothenic acid, Copper, Niacin) and contain a uniquely powerful anti-inflammatory antioxidant called anthocyanin.
WHOLE GRAIN OATS (O, V)
The gluten-free, whole grain oats used in Ample are rich in both soluble and insoluble fiber, which helps you absorb more nutrients from your meals. It also feeds good gut bacteria, helps maintain your gut integrity, and keeps you feeling full for longer. In addition, oats contain a high amount of amylose, which, compared to other types of starch, digests more slowly and spikes blood sugar less.
FIBER AND PREBIOTICS
Comprised of over 1000 different species, the human gut contains nearly three pounds of bacteria that help us digest and absorb nutrients from food.[16] These microbes are collectively referred to as our gut microbiome, which research has demonstrated is crucial for healthy endocrine regulation, immune function, and even weight regulation.[17, 18, 19] As the gut microbiome requires undigested fiber and prebiotics to flourish, Ample includes soluble and insoluble fiber, low-glycemic starches, and fructooligosaccharides to feed our probiotic blend— supporting a healthy gut microbiome, while keeping you feeling full longer.
ACACIA FIBER (O, K, V)
Acacia fiber is a type of soluble fiber sourced from the sap of Acacia senegal trees. Studies have shown that acacia fiber helps lower cholesterol levels, keep blood sugar in check, promote healthy digestion, and protect against diabetes.24, 25
ORGANIC PSYLLIUM HUSK (O)
Psyllium husk is the outermost layer of a whole grain, that, because of its soluble fiber amount, gives Ample a rich thickness. Viscous fibers such psyllium have been shown to lower total cholesterol, control blood glucose and insulin levels and helps promote a healthy bowel.26
CHICORY ROOT FIBER (O, K, V)
Chicory root fiber contains inulin, which is one of the main beneficial prebiotic fibers included in Ample. Inulin is a fructo-oligosaccharide that has been shown to improve gut microbiome function, leading to improved digestion, immunity, and overall health. 1, 2, 5, 6, 7
ORGANIC GUAR GUM (O, K, V)
In addition to helping give Ample a creamier texture, guar gum is a prebiotic fiber that’s been shown to improve the health of the gut microbiome by decreasing the concentration of potentially harmful bacteria. Guar gum also has been shown to naturally increase fullness and reduce appetite by delaying the transit time of food through the colon, and stimulating satiety hormone CCK.
PROBIOTICS
Recent research demonstrates the emerging importance of probiotics and healthy gut flora for protection against gastrointestinal issues, such as inflammatory bowel disease and even colorectal cancer.[42] Moreover, probiotics act as a barrier against common pathogens, enhancing immune system defense and promoting key nutrient absorption from food.[43] For this reason, every bottle of Ample includes six different probiotic strains and 4 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) to optimize your gut microbiome and support your digestive health.
BACILLUS COAGULANS (O, K, V)
B. coagulans is unique in that it is exceptionally able to survive in the acidic environment of the stomach. B. Coagulans has been shown to improve digestive tract health, specifically aiding those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).44
LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS (O, K, V)
L. acidophilus is a lactic acid bacteria that naturally grows in the small intestine.45 It is often used to treat lactose intolerance, Crohn’s Disease and general gut dysbiosis, and is very resistant to stomach acid. L. acidophilus has also been shown to produce folate (vitamin B9) within the body.46
LACTOBACILLUS RHAMNOSUS (O, K, V)
Like L. acidophilus, L. rhamnosus is a bacterium colonizing the small intestine and is a very important regulator in helping our immune system optimally function.47 It also has an ability to aid in digestion of lactose by the creation of lactase, as well as creating folate and vitamin B12.48
BIFIDOBACTERIUM LACTIS (O, K, V)
Bifidobacterium lactis is a bacterium that colonizes the gut and is specifically known for its mechanisms in containing resistance to bile salts (important since the bacteria needs to get past some very harsh digestion!).47 Like Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium aid in the digestion of lactose and are also critical for creating B vitamins.49
BIFIDOBACTERIUM INFANTIS (O, K, V)
In addition to vitamin synthesis, B. infantis is widely used to normalize gut bacteria function. It has shown to reduce symptoms of IBS.50 B.infantis has a wide variety of enzymes to digest many different oligosaccharides, which is good for us because it will help break down indigestible material. B. infantis has been found to be a better bacterial colonizer than other species51 and is also great at bile salt resistance.52
LACTOBACILLUS PARACASEI (O, K, V)
L. paracasei is also part of our natural human flora and is particularly important as it consumes fructo-oligosaccharides found in the inulin (so it will help in the breakdown of other ingredients found in Ample), and has been shown to contribute to helping regulate our immune system (it’s one of the probiotic strains used in the widely known therapeutic treatment VSL #3 that has been used in therapies to treat ulcerative colitis).52, 53
ORGANIC GREENS + FRUITS & VEGETABLES
The importance of vegetables in a healthy diet is a nearly universal truth among scientists and nutritionists alike. Our blend of organic greens and fruit is carefully sourced to provide a concentrated boost of nutrients and antioxidants for fighting off damaging free radicals [ref, ref, ref, ref]. This blend includes organic wheatgrass, organic barley grass, and lemon in all three formulas, and organic kale, carrots, and raspberries added to Ample V.
ORGANIC WHEATGRASS (O, K, V)
Wheatgrass contains a full spectrum of nutrients, including chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes.36 Wheatgrass also has high antioxidant capacity to control inflammation.
ORGANIC BARLEY GRASS (O, K, V)
Barley grass is one of the most abundant grains on Earth and is high in micronutrients (especially manganese and phosphorus).37 Like wheatgrass, barley grass also has an exceptional antioxidant capacity, and hence the ability to control inflammation, an important aspect since oxidative damage has being linked to many serious diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes melitus, and Alzheimer’s.38
ORGANIC KALE (V)
Kale has long-been known to be a nutritional powerhouse for a number of reasons. Not only is it abundant in vitamins A, C, E, and K, folate, and minerals, kale contains an abundance of antioxidants, which are necessary for preventing damage created by free radicals.
LEMON (O, K, V)
Lemon is high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid. It is also rich in minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, zinc, and phosphorus. Additionally, the polyphenols in lemon have been shown to fight weight gain by increasing beta-oxidation of fat cells in mice.
RASPBERRIES (V)
In addition to the high amounts of vitamin C, riboflavin, folate, magnesium, manganese, niacin, potassium, and copper, raspberries have some of the highest antioxidant capacity of any fruit, due to the abundance of anthocyanin and catechins.
CARROTS (V)
Carrots have a bright orange pigment due to their high levels of beta-carotene, which is both a powerful antioxidant, and is also converted in the body to Vitamin A. There’s some evidence to suggest that highly colored fruits, because of their antioxidant capacity, can aid in promoting a healthy heart.
